Our Story
By: Tracey Wozny
In this small-town community, a typical high school senior class sends less than 40% of its graduates to college or higher education opportunities. Many settle for less than their full potential because they haven’t known anything different in their lives; they sometimes simply stay in their comfort zones and fear exploring outside their small community. During my years as a dance teacher I witnessed a deficit in strong character values and leadership due to lack of exposure of strong examples in their lives. We started having “life lessons” around the ballet barre on manners, being thankful, following through to the finish line and being kind. Over the years, I saw these “life lessons” stick and strong resilient young leaders emerge and become impactful in their schools and community.
In 2015, the Taking Shape non-profit organization was founded with the mission to raise young leaders Here, Near and Far through our Star Leadership curriculum. Here in our local communities, Near in our surrounding cities and Far in our world. Currently the Taking Shape STAR Leadership curriculum is now studied by over 10,000 children internationally.
We hope that our story will be able to inspire you to join in our journey to give our younger generations the tools they need to become the next wave of leaders all around the world!
